Signs Your Commercial Roof Has Water Damage

The damage to your commercial roof can cost you tens of thousands of dollars in repairs. When you start to see water creeping in, it’s important that you are rectifying the issue as soon as possible. When moisture is present, it doesn’t take long before mold and mildew start to form as well. In order to prevent a large-scale repair bill, here are some of the top signs your commercial roof as water damage.

Damage To The Ceilings

If you notice that the ceilings on the top floor of your building are starting to show signs of damage or water, there is a chance that you could soon experience a ceiling collapse. If you start to notice the signs of chipped or peeling paint or initial damage to the ceiling it’s important to get an inspection on the area as soon as possible.

Missing Shingles

Missing shingles or gaps in seams can leave a layer of water protection open. If there’s a gap in your coverage, you could quickly start to see water damage.

A Smell of Dampness or Mildew

If you notice that there is a smell of mildew or mold inside your business, there’s a chance that you’re seeing the early signs of water damage. Mildew can be removed if you take on the right tasks as soon as possible. By working with a mold expert, you can get rid of the smell and prevent mold and mildew from spreading.

Gathering Water

If you notice that there are ponds of water on top of your roof, there’s a good chance that it could seep through. Removing the water as soon as possible with a pump or leaf blower can save your roof.

If the construction materials under the roof are starting to age it may be wise for you to seek an inspection and immediate repair. Signs of aging on your roof will appear in fading roofing tiles, edges of shingles curling, and more. If your roof is more than 10 years old and you haven’t had a recent inspection, contact a roofer immediately.
